Mind Mapping
I read a very timely post today from Creating Passionate Users. I have been looking for a way to better document both existing projects and product/strategy brainstorming sessions. I have been familiar with the concept of mind mapping, but never really tried to use the technique. Creating Passionate Users linked to some great tools for executing that type of note-taking and brain-dumping. I'm going to try both the free java application called FreeMind and the free trial of MindManager to see if this process works for me.
I'll give feedback once I get into them and welcome thoughts from anyone on the pros/cons to mind mapping as well as alternative techniques.

Oh man, I'm a freak for the mind maps... I've been using FreeMind, but only because I'm afraid to try MindManager. I know it'll suck me in and then I'll want all the bells and whistles...
I used to do all my maps with pen and paper, but FreeMind has changed that. I'm sure that at some point I'll just get fed up with it's little glitches and move to MindManager, though.

I'm using Freemind and it's worked just great for me. You should download the latest version (8.0) even though it is still a release candidate.
I look around and some other like MindManager, but I just needed a simple mindmapping application and Freemind met my need (plus my pocketbook).
If you want to try something a little different, check out Personal Brain (http://www.thebrain.com). It's fun to play with but may be a little too visual stimulating for most.

Started with Freemind, and am now a convert to MindManager. It is truly awesome. I never realized how much the interface of Freemind got in the way (I *thought* it was easy to use until I did the trial of MindManager.
